As author of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA) Asylum Primer, Ms. Collopy literally wrote the book on asylum law for U.S. immigration attorneys, and her scholarship on asylum and refugee issues is widely acclaimed. Ms. Collopy is a member of the adjunct faculty at the American University Washington College of Law, where she teaches Asylum and Refugee Law and teaches in its prestigious Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. Previously, Ms. Collopy owned and operated a nationally renowned immigration law firm in Washington, DC.

For nearly two decades, Ms. Collopy has dedicated her career to defending the rights of individuals fleeing persecution, violence, and other human rights violations. She has successfully represented clients in affirmative and defensive asylum cases, withholding of removal, Convention Against Torture claims, and other forms of humanitarian relief. Her extensive litigation background before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and federal courts makes her a formidable advocate for those in need of protection and an extraordinary teacher and trainer for other immigrants’ rights advocates around the country.
